Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

Equipment

  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 fine grater

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large cucumber
  • 1/2 medium lemon
  • 2 cups nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped dill
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Begin by grating the cucumber using a fine grater. Squeeze out any excess moisture using your hands or by placing the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel and gently squeezing it.

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, cucumber, minced garlic, chopped dill, lemon juice, olive oil and salt.

  • Mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Season with salt if desired and adjust seasoning to your palate.

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the tzatziki sauce to an airtight container, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Before serving, give the tzatziki sauce a quick stir. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve chilled as a delightful accompaniment to grilled meats (such as chicken, lamb, or kebabs), pita bread, falafels, or as a refreshing dip for fresh vegetables.
